How to Sync Audio with Projection Mapping

Synchronize audio playback with your projection mapping content. Create audio-reactive installations and timed sequences.

Audio synchronization adds another dimension to projection mapping, creating immersive experiences where visuals respond to sound.

Basic Audio Sync

External Playback: Use separate audio software (like QLab, Ableton, or VLC) synchronized with your projection mapping software. Start both simultaneously or use timecode.

Manual Timing: For simple installations, manually trigger both audio and visual elements. Practice the timing until it's consistent.

Video with Audio: If your content includes video, embed audio directly in the video file. This ensures perfect sync.

Audio-Reactive Techniques

Shader Animation: Use shaders that respond to audio input. While Map Club doesn't have built-in audio reactivity, you can manually animate shader properties to match audio beats.

Timed Sequences: Create sequences where shader properties change at specific times, matching your audio timeline.

Layer Opacity: Animate layer opacity to pulse with music. This creates a simple but effective audio-reactive effect.

Workflow Tips

  • Export your audio timeline and use it as a reference for timing visual changes
  • Test sync multiple times before your event
  • Have a backup plan if audio fails
  • Consider using a metronome or click track during setup for precise timing

While Map Club focuses on visual mapping, you can create powerful audio-synced experiences by planning your timing and using external audio playback.
