Getting Started with Projection Mapping: Your First Project

Learn how to create your first projection mapping project. Set up your output window, create surfaces and shaders, and stream to a projector. Free tutorial.

Projection mapping transforms any surface into a dynamic display by warping digital content to match physical objects. Whether you're mapping onto buildings, stages, or sculptures, the goal is to create perfectly aligned projections that appear integrated with the surface.

Map Club is a free, web-based projection mapping platform that runs entirely in your browser—no downloads or expensive software required. It provides all the essential tools: surfaces for content, shaders for dynamic effects, frames for organization, X-ray mode for alignment, and a streamlined workflow from creation to projection.

Quick Start Workflow

Here's the essential workflow for your first projection mapping project:

  1. Open the output window - Click the output window button and drag it to your projector display
  2. Make it fullscreen - Press F11 and hide browser UI elements
  3. Crop to fit - Click the crop to fit button to match dimensions
  4. Create surfaces - Use the surface button in the layers panel
  5. Add shaders - Click the shader button for dynamic effects
  6. Warp to fit - Drag corner handles to align with your projection target
  7. Use X-ray mode - Toggle the X-ray icon for easier alignment
  8. Enable performance mode - If lagging, toggle the performance mode button
